POSITION SUMMARY

The University of Dayton is seeking an experienced Director of Planned Giving to serve as a fundraising specialist in the area of planned giving. This person will work collaboratively with colleagues in all areas of Advancement to provide technical support and guidance related to gift planning. The Director will report directly to the Assistant Vice President, Principal, International and Legacy Gifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required.

Three (3) years of progressive development experience to include at least two (2) years of related planned giving experience and exposure in closing Planned Gifts.

Fundamentals of development with knowledge of gift planning strategies, marketing and/or communications.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

This position requires a valid drivers license, low risk driving record and insurability by the University.

Substantial travel, along with occasional evening and weekend work, is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Seven (7) years of progressive development experience to include at least five (5) years of related planned giving experience and significant exposure in closing Planned Gifts.

Experience in advancement with a focus on planned gifts and successful experience in creating a culture of philanthropy.

Demonstrated successful experience with wealth management, financial planning, tax and charitable gift laws and planned giving vehicles and methods.

Experience along with examples of working with planned and major giving strategies and the ability to educate and inform donors about appropriate giving vehicles.

Successful experience in interacting with trust lawyers, counsel office, and other partners as well as a demonstrated successful collaboration with internal and external constituents.

Excellent analytic ability, oral and written communication skills, and a strong attention to detail.

Technical experience with Planned Giving software.

High integrity, relationship-building skills and effective interpersonal skills.
