POSITION SUMMARY

Individuals in this position are required to conduct professional level assignments requiring the use of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in the area of surface and analytical chemistry. This position is expected to demonstrate the ability to independently generate research ideas, solve technical problems, organize, analyze and interpret data. They are required to assist other researchers in performing professional-level assignments that require the use of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of various surface and analytical chemistry techniques and good laboratory practices (GLP) and good management practices (GMP). Constructs, operates, and maintains apparatus used in experiments, assists in various stages of report preparation, supports overall marketing efforts. Trains student research assistants in the operation of apparatus used for experiments. Directs research activities of student assistants and technicians. Reviews and follows applicable safety and security procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Engineering or a related field.

Five years experience in a related field could stand in lieu of a degree

A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is required.

Due to the nature of this position, candiate must be a US citizen.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office including Excel and Word programs.

Demonstrated ability to generate ideas, solve problems, and contribute to the preparation of technical documents.

Preferred Qualifications

Have a proven knowledge of the theory, operation, and methodologies of analytical chemistry such as, but not limited to, ultra violet – visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, liquid chromatography (LC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), mass spectrometry (MS), and surface analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Have a demonstrated knowledge and experience in methods development; knowledge of electrochemical test techniques (uses and limitations of both AC and DC techniques, SKP, SVP) is a plus; skills in and knowledge of general laboratory test techniques; computer skills (MS Office, graphing software, data acquisition and analysis software for controlling lab equipment); ability to convey ideas in a clear, concise, objective scientific manner (verbal and written).
