POSITION SUMMARY

This senior coatings and corrosion technician position is located at the University of Dayton Research Institute with the Corrosion Science & Engineering Group.
Individuals in this position are required to have a superior working knowledge of various coating materials for aerospace applications. These include lacquers, enamels, polyurethanes, radar absorbing coatings, epoxies and rain erosion resistant coatings. They are also required to have superior working knowledge on the operation and maintenance of salt spray, humidity and SO2 cabinets for accelerated exposure testing of materials.
This position concentrates on: operation and maintenance of the exposure test cabinets; layout of laboratory test matrices and daily schedules based upon approved test plans; maintenance and troubleshooting of exposure test cabinets and associated equipment as required; performance of other laboratory coating exposures and testing.

Minimum Qualifications

Individual must be proficient with techniques and equipment used in exposure testing and corrosion measurement/mitigation. This includes (but is not limited to): Q-Fog cabinets and the running of ASTM B117 Salt Spray, Prohesion ASTM G85-A5, and GMW 14872; SO2 exposure cabinet and running of ASTM G85 Annex 4, and ASTM G87.

Individual must have a minimum of 8 years hands-on aerospace coatings application experience and demonstrated proficiency to perform coating removal, pretreatment and coating application for aerospace.

Must have a demonstrated expertise and minimum of three years of experience with specific coating material application processes including HVLP, gravity-fed, pressure pot, and electrostatic.

Must have superior working knowledge of various coating materials for aerospace applications. These include lacquers, enamels, polyurethanes, radar absorbent coatings, epoxies and rain erosion resistant coatings.

Due to the nature of this position, applicants must be a US citizen.

Must have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office including Excel and Word programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with military aerospace coating application on aircraft (de-painting process, pretreatment, organic coating application), qualitative interpretation of coating performance as per ASTM standard methods.

Working knowledge of various coatings test methods, techniques and equipment used to evaluate coatings and corrosion exposures (adhesion, color, gloss, evaluation for corrosion per military requirements).

Experience with composite and metallic aircraft structure surface preparation and coating application.

Experience running electrochemical corrosion tests.

Active Secret Security Clearance preferred.
