A self motivated, technically apt, efficient and reliable lab technician is sought to
ensure day to day operation of a pilot scale outdoor algae culturing facility and indoor reactor systems. Required to operate, maintain and repair systems as needed. Maintenance and operation includes: cleaning bioreactor tanks, replenishing feed for the systems (gas tanks, boiler fuel and nutrients), harvesting and drying algae, and operating a liquefaction system. Required to work outdoor during cold or warm weather extremes to get the job done safely and respond to a lab emergency, as well as run errands for the lab.

*Depending on future program funding and performance, may be considered for full time employment after a year.

Minimum Qualifications

-High School graduation or its equivalent.
-Able to pass a background check.
-Physically and mentally agile.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office
-Provide own transportation

Preferred Qualifications

-Six months relevant technical experience
-Associates degree in mechanical/chemical or related field
-Experience that demonstrates technical aptitude
-Experience operating and maintaining electrical-mechanical systems such as piston pumps, centrifuges, photobioreactors, high pressure thermal systems, boilers, drying ovens, hammer mills and photobioreactor systems
-Experience in heat tracing, insulating, plumbing and wiring equipment
-Able to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and follow instructions
-Experience with basic hand tools, machining, welding and assembly
-Accurate record keeping, sampling and data acquisition experience
-Pilot plant operation experience
-Experience working with people of diverse cultural, technical and professional
-Demonstrated experience working in and across teams
-Leadership experience to complete work assignments
-Prior control system hardware (valves, flow meters, pressure transducers, VFD, NI hardware, PLC) experience
-Local area residents

Work Hours

Monday – Sunday up to 35 hrs a week. Typical work schedule to be between 8 am and 5 pm on weekdays. A flexible schedule may be accommodated based on lab needs over time.
